Float Therapy, the Safe and Sanitary Way

Many people who have never experienced our float tanks before wonder about sanitation. Rest assured that at Still Life Massage and Float, everything is done with utmost care. First, we are a licensed establishment and follow the strict guidelines of the Washington State Department of Health . We also hold ourselves to the highest standards for the health and safety of our clients and staff.

Unlike the water found in a typical bathtub, our state of the art float tanks use a highly concentrated solution of 1,200 lbs of Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) dissolved in about 240 gallons of water ensuring that nothing is able to grow in this environment.

Prior to a float, each person is required to shower thoroughly before entering the float pods to remove any possible contaminants. At the conclusion of a float, the float tank solution is completely run 4 times through our extensive double-filtration process. The first filter is a 1-micron filter, (keep in mind, a red blood cell is 5 microns), while the second is a 15-micron filter.

More details that are thoroughly monitored on a daily basis and adjusted as needed may include:

  • pH
  • Alkalinity
  • Specific gravity (buoyancy)
  • Temperature of the solution

We also voluntarily test our float tank solution on a regular basis with an independent lab, here in Bellingham, WA and are extremely proud to report the results have always been pristine.

Who Is the Float Tank Designed For?

Float tanks can be enjoyed by everyone, of all ages. They are especially beneficial for folks who are going through a lot of physical and mental stress.

Now, you don’t have to wait to save up for a holiday to the Dead Sea to experience this amazing relief. The water in our pods is some of the most sanitary and purified you’ve ever experienced. And there’s no experience quite like this one!
